Hand Luggage – liquids & large electrical items.

Bournemouth Airport has completed the process of installing and testing new security screening equipment to improve passenger security.

For hand luggage this means that with immediate effect:

Passengers flying from Bournemouth Airport can now leave liquids and large electrical items such as laptops in their cabin baggage.
Passengers flying from Bournemouth Airport will no longer need to present liquids separately in a clear resealable plastic bag however, liquids are restricted to containers of up to 2,000ml.

Please note: as many airports have not yet introduced this new technology, passengers should check restrictions prior to travel as, they may still be required to carry liquids within a clear plastic bag for the return journey back to Bournemouth Airport.

Statement from Bournemouth Airport about planned industrial action by Unite members

The Unite union has today (Tuesday, 16th September) informed Bournemouth Airport that some of their members intend to undertake industrial action.

This relates to areas containing around 70 Unite members, out of Bournemouth Airport’s total workforce of 450.

We are extremely disappointed industrial action has been threatened despite the Airport having negotiated extensively and in good faith with Unite and having met all their previous demands in full. This included making significantly improved pay offers to staff in line with requests, which Unite recommended to their members for approval.

The Airport fire services team have accepted the improved pay offer, but other areas have disappointingly not.

We will continue to seek to reach agreement with Unite without the need for industrial action. At the same time, preparations are under way on contingency plans to minimise disruption and allow the airport to operate as normal on these dates.

Note:
The dates of the proposed action are 30 September, 1 October, 16 October and 17 October.
Passengers due to fly on any of the planned strike days are, as always, advised to check with their airline nearer the time for the very latest information about their flight.
