Airport community fund passes £50,000 milestone

Bournemouth Airport’s Community Fund has now awarded more than £50,000 to help support local groups. The Fund, which was set up in 2008, is open to community, social, recreational and environmental groups within the Borough of Christchurch and has four main objectives:

• To bring the community closer together through facilities for sport, recreation and other leisure time activities
• To offer environmental improvement and/or heritage conservation
• To improve awareness of environmental issues through environmental education
• To encourage and/or protect wildlife

Organisations which have benefited from the Airport Community Fund include Mudeford Sea Scouts, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Bournemouth Aviation Museum, Christchurch Activities for Young People, Highcliffe Sailing Club, British Legion and Christchurch Football Club.

Commenting on this important milestone, Paul Knight, Managing Director of Bournemouth Airport said: “We are very conscious of our need to be part of the local community and to support projects which offer a lasting benefit to the area. We are delighted that we have been able to help a wide range of organisations that needed some money to buy some important equipment or kick start a new project.
