Belfast is a beautiful city with mild temperatures throughout the year. The average summer temperatures are around 16ºC and allow for very relaxed city walks as you discover a truly rejuvenated city with a new lease of life.
The area around Belfast was first settled in the bronze age and very near to the city is a 5000-year-old henge known as the “The Giants Ring” and just over an hour’s drive out of the city to the north is the famous Giants Causeway which attracts tourists from all over the world.
If you do not feel like travelling then Belfast has many historic and cultural attractions of its own from Queens University fabled for its architecture through to the recently opened Titanic Belfast which is a series of suspended escalators and walkways that lead to 9 galleries situated on the site of the Harland and Wolff shipyard which built the Titanic.
Belfast has been the home of many famous people and probably the most notable amongst them are George Best, Sir Kenneth Branagh, Sir James Galway, Lord Kelvin and C.S. Lewis but the list carries on.
During the troubles the culture of Belfast was divided by the two factions but since the good Friday agreement the culture has begun to merge and is creating a wonderful experience for the traveller who can witness this first hand at the amazing Waterfront Hall or in the centre at Victoria square. The artists and singer song writers have immortalised the time of the troubles and a multitude of famous singers or bands have written songs about Belfast, these include U2, Simple Minds, Elton John, The Police and many more.
Belfast is certainly a city with history that offers relaxation or excitement in equal amounts depending what kind of traveller you are.
